Consequences of the US Base on Mageshima

The Japanese government recently purchased the uninhabited island of Mageshima for the purposes of a new US military base to carry out Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP) drills. Naturally, it has caused a furore in the neighboring islands. The consequences for Mageshima’s flora and fauna could be dire beyond measure:
